Series Snapshot ~ 5/29/2025

This week the Netflix limited series, Sirens, debuted. Audiences have streamed the new show all the way to number 1, jumping ahead of last week's American Manhunt. Sirens stars Julianne Moore, Meghann Fahy, and Milly Alcock, and explores power dynamics and complexities of the relationships between siblings and bosses through a dark comedic lens. The 5 episode series comes from executive producer and showrunner Molly Smith Metzler, known for her work as producer for both Shameless and Orange is the New Black. Sirens is a compact little satire that doesn't overstay its welcome.
Over at Hulu, after back-to-back weeks at #1, The Handmaid’s Tale finally steps down (just to #2) to make room for the second season of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. The reality show follows the trials and tribulations of a small group of Mormon TikTok influencers, as they deal with the fallout of a scandal in their community- one of the couples admit to having a consensual open relationship. The series comes from executive producer Jeff Jenkins, and has been praised for its candidness in exploring a niche community within a niche community, and its new season aired May 15th to excited and enthralled audiences.
On MAX, The Last of Us continues its role as reigning champ, after its finale aired last Sunday. Responses to the finale varied- some felt it had awkward pacing, and missed the mark on its emotional beats. Season 3 will more heavily feature Kaitlyn Dever as she portrays the series antagonist, Abby, which was a difficult hurdle for fans of the original videogame, so the series has its work cut out for it as fan favorite Pedro Pascal becomes less featured. Viewership for season 2 has been lower than season 1, so it will be interesting to see how audiences respond to the upcoming historically divisive segment. Fans of the game as well as the series haven’t particularly cared for the video game version of the story.
On AppleTV, Jon Hamm led dramedy, Your Friends and Neighbors, retakes its most-watched title, neck and neck with Murderbot. Your Friends and Neighbors is already in production for season 2, but it’s yet to be announced if Murderbot will be renewed for another season. Viewers are optimistic, as Apple tends to allow series time to develop; even the massively popular Severance had a lukewarm start. With Murderbot’s success thus far, and with plenty of source material to mine, it seems like a safe bet it will get that renewal.
Amazon’s new series Motorheads has revved its way to the number 1 spot, as Reacher viewership takes a pit stop. The new coming of age drama takes place in the world of high-school street racing in the fictional town of Ironwood, Pennsylvania. Motorheads stars
Ryan Phillippe, Nathalie Kelley, Michael Cimino, and Melissa Collazo, and comes from creator John A. Norris. Despite its sudden number 1 spot, audiences are split; some find the show fresh, exciting and addicting, while others feel it relies too heavily on cliches in both dialogue and plot. We’ll have to see if Motorheads will take a victory lap or end up stalling.
Most watched on Disney + this week, is long popular medical soap Grey’s Anatomy which left audiences on a cliffhanger when it aired May 15th. The exciting finale has driven the show up past Andor, which has seen a dip in viewership as audiences wrap the season up. Grey’s Anatomy stars Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson, and James Pickens, Jr., and will return this fall for Season 22.
