Sean Penn is an American actor, film director, and political activist from Los Angeles. Penn’s family is very involved in the performing arts; his father was involved in acting, his older brother is a musician, and his younger brother, who died in 2006, was an actor too. He made his television debut in an episode of Little House on the Prairie in 1975. He later made his film debut in Taps in 1981. He took a break from acting for a few years before coming back with films such as Dead Man Walking, Sweet and Lowdown, and I am Sam. In 2016, he directed the drama film The Last Face, and voiced a character in the animated comedy The Angry Birds Movie.
