Michael Fassbender is an actor of stage and screen that was born in West Germany but raised in Ireland. Fassbender was inspired to pursue acting at age 17 after playing a part in a play. After high school he studied at drama school in London before dropping out to go on a tour performing the play Three Sisters. He made his first television appearance acting in the series Band of Brothers in 2001. He appeared in commercials, music videos, and other televisions shows before landing his breakthrough role in the hit film 300 in 2006. He has collaborated often with director Steve McQueen, appearing in Hunger, Shame and 12 Years a Slave (for which he received his first Oscar nomination). He was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor for Steve Jobs (2016).
