Michael Douglas

Michael Douglas is an actor and film producer who was born on September 25, 1944 in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Douglas's father, Kirk Douglas, was a major movie star, but discouraged his son from entering the entertainment industry. Michael attended college and studied acting in New York in the 1960s. His professional television career started in 1969 when he appeared in a CBS-TV special “The Experiment.” He made a number of appearances in films before landing a recurring role on the series The Streets of San Francisco in 1972. He produced, along with Saul Zaentz, the 1975 Oscar winner for Best Picture, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. He was already a movie star on the rise when he achieved international prominence with his lead role in the film Romancing the Stone, which he also produced, in 1984. Awards he has won include 1 Primetime Emmy Award, 2 Academy Awards (as producer and actor), and 3 Golden Globe Awards.
