Redmayne had his television debut in an episode of Animal Ark in 1998, however it was with stage acting that he expanded his career. From 2002 onwards he appeared in multiple theater productions, such as Twelfth Night; The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?; and the Broadway production of John Logan's Red, for which he won a Tony Award. He made his film debut in 2006 with the films Like Minds and The Good Shepherd, which opened doors to many other film roles, eventually leading to his Academy Award-winning turn as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything.
