Al Pacino is an American actor and filmmaker born and raised in Manhattan. Pacino used to play a lot of baseball in his youth and participated in theater, and had a generally hardscrabble childhood in the Bronx. Pacino began to study acting in earnest as a young man, training at HB Studios and then the Actors Studio, where he studied with Lee Strasberg. Pacino was a steadily working stage and film actor already when he got his big break in the 1972 film The Godfather. He is now considered one of the great actors of his generation. He won the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in the film Scent of a Woman. Awards he has won include 1 Academy Award, 2 Primetime Emmy Awards, 2 Tony Awards and 5 Golden Globe Awards.
