Series Snapshot ~ 10/2/25

Welcome to the Series Snapshot, a weekly deep dive into the shows topping the streaming charts.
Actor, comedian and writer Mae Martin’s new series Wayward is the most watched show on Netflix this week, as Wednesday drops in viewership following its season conclusion. Wayward is a miniseries thriller set in a fictional town in Vermont called Tall Pines. Taking inspiration from Twin Peaks, the town has more than a few dark secrets, and two troubled students, played by Alyvia Alyn Lind and Sydney Topliffe who team up with a local police officer (Mae Martin) to uncover local mysteries. Wayward also stars Toni Collette, and all eight episodes are available now to stream.
On Hulu, as Alien: Earth’s season finale aired a week ago, the series makes some room for a new sports comedy, Chad Powers. The series comes from creators Glen Powell and Michael Waldron, and stars Powell as a narcissistic young college football player who ruins his reputation following an altercation during a championship game. Powell’s character, Russ Holliday, comes up with a scheme to disguise himself as “Chad Powers”, using makeup and prosthetics to revive his football career. The series’ first two episodes are available now, and have received positive reviews, with many agreeing that the show has great comedic potential. Chad Powers also stars Perry Mattfield and Quentin Plair.
At HBO Max, original series Task continues to hold its place as the most watched for the week. The gritty crime-thriller has still received generally positive reviews, especially for the performances of lead actors Mark Ruffalo and Tom Pelphrey, who play the cat-and-mouse duo throughout the series. Now that more episodes have been released, early negative criticism of the show’s pacing and writing has quelled as the plot picks up speed. The remaining three episodes will be released weekly on Sundays, with the finale set for October 19th. Task was created by Brad Ingelsby.
Amazon’s spin-off spy-action series The Terminal List: Dark Wolf returns to the top this week, as Summer I Turned Pretty begins to fall. As the series progresses, praise for the show has gone up, and now both audiences and critics are in agreement that Dark Wolf outshines its predecessor in quality; with more action, better writing, and excellent performances from the core cast. Dark Wolf stars Taylor Kitsch, Chris Pratt, and Tom Hopper, and comes from creators Jack Carr and David DiGilio. The original series is currently in production for its second season.
AppleTV’s drama series The Morning Show is the most watched on the platform this week. The series is now three episodes into its fourth season, and criticism is still very much “you’ll either love it or hate it”. It seems for some, the show’s tone can be difficult to navigate. Regardless, leads Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon are the show’s high points, and Billy Crudup is always a favorite amongst fans. The addition of Jeremy Irons as Aniston’s estranged father Martin has also given the series some new dynamics to explore, but viewers also feel the show would benefit from fewer sub-plots. The Morning Show was created by Jay Carson.
The MCUanimated series, Marvel Zombies has taken the number one spot at Disney this week. The new series explores a non-canon idea: It’s the zombie apocalypse but with The Avengers as zombies…and they’re coming for you! Fans are ecstatic; the animation’s quality is top-notch, and doesn’t shy away from the zombie genre at all in terms of violence. Marvel Zombies also comes with a star-studded cast of voice talent: Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Awkwafina and Randall Park to name a few. Marvel Zombies was created by Zeb Wells and Bryan Andrews. The four episodes are available now on Disney Plus.
