WWE Survivor Series: War Games 2025 ~ Preview

San Diego’s Petco Park (normally the home of the San Diego Padres) will play host to WWE’s Survivor Series: War Games this coming Saturday November 29. The 39th Survivor Series premium live event (fka pay-per-view) will broadcast live on ESPN’s streaming service in the U.S. and on Netflix internationally. Four matches are scheduled, with two championships on the line alongside two massive War Games matches, in which teams of five will duke it out for supremacy in a cage encompassing two side-by-side rings.

Earlier this month, John Cena appeared on the final Monday Night Raw of his 2025 retirement tour, where his hometown of Boston played host to his victory over Intercontinental champ Dominik Mysterio. Now Mysterio hopes to win the title back in his own hometown of San Diego, taking some wind out of the sails of the now 27-time champion and future Hall of Famer.

On the same Raw as Cena and Mysterio’s first match, Stephanie Vaquer ran into the first major speed bump in what’s otherwise been a six month hot streak. After first joining Raw in late May and winning the Women’s World Championship in September, Vaquer formed an alliance with WWE Hall of Famer Nikki Bella to defend the title against Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez of the Judgement Day faction. After defeating Rodriguez, Vaquer’s celebration was cut short when Bella attacked her, turning heel and demanding a title shot of her own.

In the women’s War Games match, an unlikely team of babyfaces (the wrestling term for good guys) has formed, setting aside mistrust and grudges to battle a common enemy. Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair allied with Iyo Sky and Rhea Ripley, despite Flair’s misgivings about former rival Ripley. But both women have a common enemy in current Tag Team champs the Kabuki Warriors, Asuka and Kairi Sane, and their heel allies Nia Jax and Lash Legend. With both teams needing a fifth member for War Games, Ripley recruited AJ Lee for the babyfaces which in turn led to the heels getting Becky Lynch, who is out for blood after Lee cost her the women’s Intercontinental Championship.

On the men’s side, Paul Heyman has assembled a fearsome quintet to bring down his numerous rivals. After ousting an injured Seth Rollins from the Vision, Heyman, Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed allied with Logan Paul, Drew McIntyre and Brock Lesnar. The five men will face down Heyman’s former friends and allies CM Punk (the current World Heavyweight Champion) and Roman Reigns, who have Jey Uso, his twin brother Jimmy and the Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes to back them up. But even with all of Heyman’s machinations, the biggest threat Reigns, Punk and Rhodes face are each other, each one seeing himself as team leader and the others as allies of convenience. Whether or not they can hold together long enough to take down the heels remains to be seen.
