Notes from the Rep Biz - 8-17-2018

At WME:

Newcomer Kiki Layne has signed with Jessica Kovacevic. Layne has a string of high profile projects coming up: in November, she stars in Barry Jenkins’ If Beale Street Could Talk, and then next year she’ll be seen in Rashid Johnson’s Native Son and Rupert Wyatt’s Captive State. She’s managed by Meredith Rothman at Mosaic.

At ICM Partners:

Goldie Hawn has signed with Dar Rollins. Hawn was last seen on the big screen in 2017’s Snatched opposite Amy Schumer. She continues to be repped by manager Jason Weinberg at Untitled Entertainment.

Other Notes Around Town:

Screenwriter Matt Billingsly has signed with Abram Nalibotsky and Mark Hartogsohn at Gersh. Billingsly’s 2008 blacklist script Code Name Veil is in development with director Tarik Saleh attached. His manager is Sara Bottfeld at Industry Entertainment.

Abram Nalibotsky has also signed writer Steve Waverly. Waverly’s script Love & Oatmeal is currently in post-production and will be released next year. He is repped by manager Alex Lerner at Kaplan/Perrone.

Lauren Hynek and Elizabeth Martin, writers of Disney’s Mulan live action remake, have signed with APA.  Hynek and Martin’s recent work includes the comedy Christmas Perfection and writing on the upcoming series The Kennedy Women for Alcon Entertainment. They are managed by Mike De Trana at Anvil Entertainment.

Management Notes:

Management company Primary Wave is slowly scaling back its talent division to focus on music and tv/film development. As such, the company is losing managers. Last November, co-CEO David Guillod stepped down after sexual assault accusations came to light, while another co-CEO, Mark Burg, has since left to focus on producing. That leaves Larry Mestel as the sole CEO left. Meanwhile, many of the managers have left to other companies, such as Jeff Morrone and Brad Pence to Atlas Artists, Tiffany Kuzon to Mosaic, Eric Skinner to Open Bar, and Tatiana Sarah to Authentic. And this conveniently leads into our next note…

Primary Wave manager Margot Menzel has joined Luber Roklin.  It is not known who among Menzel’s clients will follow her, but they include Charlie Plummer, Danielle Campbell, Maxwell Jenkins, and Brandon Perea.

Writer/producer/director/actor Jay Duplass has signed with Naomi Odenkirk at Odenkirk-Provissiero Entertainment. Jay and brother Mark Duplass have been extremely prolific producers since breakout The Puffy Chair, and just recently signed a worldwide rights deal with Netflix. Additionally, Duplass has been acting in Amazon’s Transparent, among many other projects. He is agented by Joanne Wiles, J.R. Ringer and Kevin Crotty at ICM.
