Notes from the Rep Biz - 3-30-2018

Several indie filmmakers have new signings, a VR filmmaker to CAA, a Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom star to UTA, a new music agent at Paradigm, and Kanye West leaves his manager! All this and more in today’s Notes from the Rep Biz.

At CAA:

VR Filmmaker Eliza McNitt has signed with Maha Dakhil, Maxine Brabent, and Sue Carls. McNitt’s three part VR series Spheres which takes viewers into the center of a blackhole was acquired out of this year’s Sundance Film Festival in a seven figure deal.

Music agents Zach Iser and Caroline Yim have left ICM and joined CAA. It’s unclear which of their clients will follow them to their new digs, but at ICM they repped SZA, Future, Daniel Caeser, Migos, and ScHoolboy Q – among others.

At UTA:

Daniella Pineda who will next be starring in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has signed with UTA. The Originals alum was last in the indie comedy Mr. Roosevelt. She remains repped by manager Kristen Ames at Kristen Ames Management.

Documentary filmmakers and brothers Chapman Way and Maclain Way have also signed with UTA. The duo recently directed and produced the six-part Netflix series Wild Wild Country which followed the guru Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh and his cult as they settled in a conservative community in central Oregon in the 1980’s. The series premiered at this year’s Sundance and then subsequently arrived on Nextflix this month.

At ICM:

Actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers has signed with Adam Schweitzer, Brad Schenck, and Carter Cohn.  Rhys Meyers was most recently seen in the fifth season of Vikings and will be playing a role in the World War II thriller 12th Man. He is managed by Stacy O’Neil at Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

Pretty Little Liars star Ashley Benson has signed with Adam Schweitzer and Carter Cohn.  Benson will next be seen opposite Elizabeth Moss in the indie Her Smell. She’s also had memorable roles in Spring Breakers, Pixels, and Elvis and Nixon.

Other Notes Around Town:

Concert promoter Lenore Kinder has left AEG Presents and joined Paradigm as a music agent in their Nashville office.

Management Notes:

Filmmaker Sara Colangelo has signed with Cora Olsen, Courtney Kivowitz, and Michael Diamond at MGMT. Colangelo’s film The Kindergarten Teacher won the U.S. Dramatic directing award at this year’s Sundance and Netflix snapped up the rights and will release it later this year. She remains repped by agent Craig Kestel at WME.

Kanye West has left his longtime manager Izzy Zivkovic. No one is quite certain why the split happened, but Kanye’s other manager Scooter Braun is expected to take over all management duties. He is still repped by CAA.

Cardi B has signed with Quality Control for management. This adds to Quality Control’s prominence in the world of hip-hop as they’ve been signing acts such as Migos and Lil Yachty. Cardi’s latest album is going to be released on April 6th.

Principato Young manager Courtney Tunney has joined Management 360 and already signed Vanderpump Rules star Lisa Vanderpump. All of Tunney’s clients are expected to follow her including – Keo Motstepe, Jaylen Bledsoe, and Lola Tash.
