Box Office Round-Up ~ 6/30/25

June at the box office wrapped up with another weekend win for Warner Bros. as F1: The Movie, directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick) and starring Brad Pitt, debuted with positive critical and audience reviews and a very welcome $55.6 million domestic opening weekend. It’s already close to $150 million worldwide, a bona fide success for Warner Bros. and the biggest global opening weekend of Pitt’s career.
How to Train Your Dragon passed the $200 million mark after three weekends, grossing $19.4 million to reach the top five highest grossing movies of the year. Elio took third place in its second weekend with $10.7 million, now at $42 million overall in the U.S.
M3GAN 2.0 saw a disappointing debut, landing in fourth place with just $10.2 million. The original M3GAN in 2023 was a surprise hit for Blumhouse, but it had the benefit of hitting theaters in the lull of January rather than the blockbuster summer season. The sequel has pleased the fanbase, but it’s unlikely to reach the $95 million mark of its predecessor.
28 Years Later saw a sharp drop in its second weekend, moving to fifth place with $9.7 million. It has passed the $50 million mark in the U.S., and may just be getting lost in the shuffle thanks to its R-rating and the crowded summer field. This coming weekend sees the Wednesday release of Jurassic World: Rebirth, which hopes to demolish the competition throughout the extended Independence Day weekend.
