WWE Money in the Bank 2025 Preview

This weekend sees the latest premium live event (PLE) from WWE, taking place at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, CA, and streaming in the U.S. on Peacock. Money in the Bank is something of an odd duck among the annual WWE events, with its centerpiece six-person ladder matches meant more as table-setters for future storylines. In Money in the Bank Ladder Matches, six competitors battle it out to erect a ladder in the center of the ring to retrieve a briefcase hanging overhead. Inside said briefcase is a contract that allows the winner to “cash in” for a match against any WWE champion (World, Heavyweight, Intercontinental, NXT, you name it…), good for one year.
Past cash-ins have varied in timing and success. Tiffany Stratton won her current WWE Women’s Championship by successfully cashing in last year’s briefcase on Nia Jax this past January. 2024 Men’s winner Drew McIntyre cashed in that very night against Damien Priest, but failed to win the belt thanks to intervention by rival CM Punk.
This year, the Men’s ladder match sees L.A. Knight, Andrade, lucha libre newcomer Penta, the mysterious El Grande Americano (who is obviously Chad Gable in disguise unless he’s not), Bloodline leader Solo Sikoa and Seth Rollins vying for the briefcase. Rollins, currently taking the entire WWE roster by storm alongside manager Paul Heyman and vicious allies Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed, is the favorite to win.
On the Women’s side, Alexa Bliss, Roxanne Perez, Rhea Ripley, Giulia, Stephanie Vacquer and Naomi will all vie for the cash-in opportunity. Newcomers from NXT Giulia and Vacquer are both incredibly popular, and no one should ever count out perennial fan favorite (and former champion) Rhea Ripley, but Naomi’s recent unhinged heel turn against former teammates Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill has made her a force to be reckoned with, even against a quintet of formidable and popular opponents.
Alongside the ladder matches, the Women’s Intercontinental Championship is on the line. Current champ Lyra Valkyria and her former mentor Becky Lynch will run it back after their vicious match at Backlash in early May. Lynch, hellbent on winning the belt and destroying her ex-protege, has agreed to a “Last Chance Match.” If Lynch loses, she can’t challenge for the Intercontinental title as long as Valkyria is champion. But if Valkyria loses, she will be forced raise Becky Lynch’s hand and acknowledge her as the better woman and superior wrestler.
Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena continues his quest to ruin wrestling forever (his words), teaming up with Logan Paul to take on current Heavyweight Champion Jey Uso (who also has a title match this coming Monday on Raw against Gunther) and a returning Cody Rhodes, in his first match since losing to Cena at Wrestlemania 41. Regardless of who wins, Rhodes and Cena remain on a collision course, with a championship rematch likely on the horizon at SummerSlam in August.
