Series Snapshot ~ 6/5/2025

Netflix’s new hit limited series, Sirens, continues to lure in viewers for another week at number 1. The show is generating a lot of buzz, and with the 2025 Emmy awards around the corner, several of the show's actors are throwing their hat in the ring- Julianne Moore and Milly Alcock may have a shot at best supporting, while Meghann Fahy will submit for best leading actress. The series is also submitting Kevin Bacon for best lead. Sirens is a fairly short series, which makes it easy to binge, but we may see it dip in the charts next week as it hits peak audience saturation.

For Hulu, while Handmaid’s Tale is still dominating the charts, interestingly, General Hospital has crashed through the list, hitting #1 on June 4th, and sitting around number 2-3 for the week. The longest-running American soap opera has hit number 1 on the platform a few times, and most recently it seems to be due to the phenomenal ratings of the last few episodes, and the annual “Nurses’ Ball”, which started as a fundraiser in 1994 (both in real life, and in the show’s universe) for HIV/AIDS awareness. Season 62 of General Hospital stars Donnell TurnerEden McCoy, and Maurice Bernard, and is led by executive producer Frank Valentini

After a divisive final episode of MAX’s popular videogame adaptation, The Last of Us - Season 2, the series continues to hold its spot, but not for long, as Rick and Morty returns, reaching for the top. The new season of the animated comedy has started airing live on Adult Swim, and MAX will have full access to the new season episodes as early as September of this year. Since MAX currently only has access to seasons 1-7, it’s likely that fans are re-watching the old seasons as a refresher for season 8. The self-aware animated sci-fi comedy has had massive cultural impact, however, the show has been on for over a decade, and has since seen the departure of series creator and star, Justin Roiland, and may have already hit its peak. Most shows struggle to stay fresh after a decade on the air, but the series has been ordered for 101 episodes, and as of today has 73 episodes under its gadget-packed belt.

Amazon’s brand new thriller series, The Better Sister, takes the number 1 spot this week, as last week’s viewership champ, Motorheads takes a pit stop. The new show stars Jessica BielElizabeth Banks, and Corey Stoll, and is adapted from Alafair Burke’s 2019 novel of the same name. The Better Sister tells the story of two estranged sisters, Chloe and Nicky (Biel and Banks, respectively) who are forced to work together following the murder of Adam, (Stoll), Chloe’s husband and Nicky’s ex. The show premiered on May 29th to great reviews, and comes from creator Olivia Milch

At AppleTV, Your Friends and Neighbors saw its season finale on May 29th, and has held its spot at number 1 as it comes to a close. The dramedy continues to receive praise for its ability to shift between humor and suspense, and the series finale was met with a generally positive consensus. Viewers were delighted by the show’s subversion of expectations and exciting left-turns. Based on how Jon Hamms performance is being received, it wouldn’t be out of the question to see him shoot for an Emmy award in the “Best Leading Actor” category. In a recent interview with Variety, series creator Jonathan Tropper teased a bit about season 2, that they’re not going to go “Walter White” with Hamm’s character, so the show will likely keep audiences guessing at every opportunity.

The other longtime running medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, continues its stay at Disney+’s number 1 watched show this week, following the cliffhanger season finale that aired May 15th. Particularly impressive, considering the show has been on for so long, and has had over 2 weeks to permeate audiences.  As predicted, Andor (previously a regular at the top) has continued to drop down, slipping to around number 8. Grey’s Anatomy will be back this fall with an all-new season.
