Box Office Round-Up ~ 5/5/25

Thunderbolts* opened the month of May with a welcome $74.3 million for Disney and Marvel Studios. Bolstered by positive reviews from critics and audiences, it should reign supreme over the box office until Memorial Day weekend, and it bodes well for Fantastic Four: First Steps in July. The two films are the final steps towards next year’s Avengers: Doomsday, the culmination of a bumpy road for the MCU since 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

The rest of the top five were the usual suspects, with Sinners taking second place with $33.1 million, for an impressive $179 million domestic haul in just three weekends. A Minecraft Movie moved back up to third place, starting its second month in theaters with $13.7 million, putting it just shy of $400 million in the U.S., the highest grossing movie of 2025 by a wide margin.

The Accountant 2 passed $40 million overall in its second weekend, grossing $9.4 million. Until Dawn held onto fifth place with $3.8 million. This coming Mother’s Day weekend sees a pair of new actioners Shadow Force and Fight or Flight, but nothing that should get in the way of a second winning weekend for Thunderbolts*.
