Weekend Report, September 23, 2013
Stellar reviews and awards buzz are nice and all, but it is the rare film that completes the trifecta with a #1 finish on opening weekend. Prisoners appears to be just such a film. It was praised by critics, who particularly raved about leads Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal, and now it looks like this overwhelmingly positive word of mouth will translate into financial gain. The same cannot be said for Battle of the Year, which also opened this weekend; in fact, none of it can be said. But hey, if you went to Prisoners to see a B-Boy dance off, then you were hugely disappointed.
