Derek Jeter is a professional baseball player who was born on June 26, 1974 in Pequannock Township, New Jersey. Jeter is a baseball shortstop; his father was also a shortstop when he played baseball in university. After watching Dave Winfield play Jeter was inspired to pursue playing baseball as a career. His talent was noticed in his high school years where, at one stage, he became recognized as the best high school baseball player in all of Michigan. In his professional career he played for Yankees and retired after 20 seasons. Today he is recognized as a baseball legend and has accrued numerous awards behind his name including 1 Rookie of the Year award, 5 Player of the Year titles, and 5 Golden Glove awards.
