Box Office Round Up - 9-24-2018

The House With a Clock in Its Walls took number one at the box office, coming in above industry expectations with a very strong $27 million. This should make WME very happy as they represent director Eli Roth, writer Eric Kripke, and star Jack Black. And CAA will get in on the action as well, as they represent co-star Cate Blanchett. Despite House’s over-performance, it was still a down week at the box office, and according to Box Office Mojo, the worst weekend of the year.

In second place with $10.4 million was the comedic thriller A Simple Favor, keeping up a strong showing at the box office and only dropping 35%. Domestically the film has made $33 million, and $10 million internationally.

Demonic possession film The Nun came in third place with $10.2 million. The horror film has now made $101 million domestically, and $191 million internationally.

Dropping a whopping 65% from last weekend with $8.7 million was The Predator. The film continues its bumpy box office road and has made $40 million domestically and $54 million internationally. That’s gonna put a cooling spell on any more Predator entries for a bit.

Staying in fifth place for the second week in a row is Crazy Rich Asians with $6.5 million for the weekend. The film has now made $159 million domestically, and has a worldwide gross of $206.4 million.

Outside the top five: the Matthew McConaughey true crime drama White Boy Rick dropped to sixth place, while the Jennifer Garner revenge film Peppermint fell to seventh. Michael Moore’s new documentary Fahrenheit 11/9 opened in eighth place, while giant shark attack movie The Meg dropped to ninth, and mystery thriller Searching fell to tenth.

The other big newcomer of the week, Life Itself, didn’t even crack the top ten. Ouch.

Next week: Channing Tatum is a yeti in the animated Smallfoot; spookhouse horror film Hell Fest gets a jump on October; and Tiffany Haddish schools Keven Hart in Night School.
