Box Office Round Up - 6-18-2018

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Disney/Pixar’s Incredibles 2 did, well, incredible this weekend, shattering records left and right and taking the number one spot with $180 million. The film had the highest opening weekend for an animated film, beating Finding Dory, the previous record holder. And that’s not all! The film also had the eighth highest opening of all time. Expect this film to have serious legs for the rest of the summer. UTA should be extremely happy with this weekend as they rep writer/director Brad Bird and star Craig T. Nelson. While ICM reps star Holly Hunter and WME reps Bob Odenkirk.

Dropping to second place with $20 million was Ocean’s 8 which dropped 53% and has now made just about $80 million domestically. Worldwide the film has made $116 million.

In third place with $15 million, was the r-rated action comedy Tag. This made more than the studio was expecting, but analysts were expecting something just a bit more robust. Still not bad for the film overall and the folks at UTA should be happy as they rep director Jeff Tomsic and co-star Isla Fisher. While CAA will get in on the party as well, as they rep stars Jeremy Renner and Jon Hamm.

In fourth place with $9.1 million is Solo: A Star Wars Story. Still underperforming with a domestic total of $195 million. Internationally the film has totally stalled with an international total of $145 million and a worldwide gross of $339.5 million.

And rounding out the top five with $8.8 million is the merc-with-a-mouth himself -- Deadpool 2. The film has now grossed $295 million domestic and is close to making $700 million worldwide.

Dropping into sixth place, is the horror drama Hereditary, while newcomer Superfly opened in seventh. Avengers: Infinity War is making its way out of the top ten as it falls into eighth place, but the film has now made $2 billion world wide. The Shailene Woodley survival drama Adrift fell to ninth place, and Book Club fell to tenth place.

Next Week: Dinosaurs will stomp the box office as Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom comes to party. The film will most certainly take the top spot at the box office, and everyone else is getting out of its way.
