Box Office Round Up - 2-26-2018

Black Panther continued its historic run at the box office this weekend taking number one again with a $108 million haul. This makes it the second fastest film to make $400 million domestic, the second largest second weekend of all time, and the fifth highest grossing Marvel Cinematic Universe film.

In second place with $17 million is New Line’s Game Night which is right in line with analysts expectations and it should have a little bit of legs going forward. Good news for UTA who reps directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. While WME should be happy as they rep star Rachel McAdams and CAA should be happy with this performance as well repping producer and star Jason Bateman.

In third place with $13 million and the counter-programming holdover from the start of the month was Sony’s Peter Rabbit. In fourth place, with a disappointing $11 million was the sci-fi film Annihilation which shouldn’t make WME too happy as they rep writer/director Alex Garland. While CAA reps stars Natalie Portman and Gina Rodriguez.

Still hanging in fifth place with $6.9 million is Fifty Shades Freed.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle finally drops out of the top five and into sixth place. The 15:17 to Paris hits seventh, while The Greatest Showman is still kicking around in eighth place, and the other new wide release the YA Fantasy Every Day opens in ninth, and Aardman Animation’s Early Man closes out the weekend in tenth place.

Next Week: Jennifer Lawrence gets into some spy shenanigans in Red Sparrow and Bruce Willis goes on a vigilante rampage in the Death Wish remake. Can either film dethrone Black Panther?
