Weekend Box Office Report - 12-4-2017

Pixar’s Coco won the weekend again with $26.1 million and a drop of only 48%. Since there weren’t any new wide releases this week, the top five was largely the same as last weekend. Justice League remained in second place with $16.5 million, dropping 60% from the holiday weekend. Which is still not terrible, but, oof.

In third place Wonder continues to have legs, coming in with $12.5. While Thor: Ragnarok and Daddy’s Home 2 round out the top five with $9.7 million and 7.5 million, respectively.

In other spots in the top ten, Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird expanded to more theaters, earning $4.5 million and jumping up to #7, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri hopped up to #8 with a $4.5 million take.

Two Oscar heavy hitters were the big limited releases this week. The Disaster Artist made $1.2 million in just 19 locations. This should spell good news for the film as it expands making, UTA and WME happy as they rep director and star James Franco and co-star Dave Franco. Guillermo Del Toro’s The Shape of Water also opened in just two locations, and garnered $166,800, and will be expanding next week. Del Toro’s reps at WME should be excited about this.

Next week: While indies expand there’s only one wide release, Broad Green’s Just Getting Started. At this point, everyone is holding off on releasing anything before Star Wars: The Last Jedi on the 15th.
