Box Office Round Up - 12-10-18

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Another week, another dominant showing from Ralph Breaks the Internet and Dr. Suess' The Grinch. For the third straight box office update, the top two spots are held by the same pair of animated comedies. And for the third straight update, I say again: this version of the Grinch will never, ever, ever be superior to the one starring Jim Carrey. A man's got to have a code.

In fact, we have an all-time first here at WhoReps, at least since yours truly has been doing the box office reports. All of the top five from last week remain in their exact positions. Creed II remains at three, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindewald holds at four, and yes, Bohemian Rhapsody remains, inexorably, at five. Death, taxes, and Freddie Mercury. That Rami Malek sure is something. Reportedly, he's being eyed to play the villain in the next James Bond movie. Here's hoping that comes to fruition!

Next week should finally, mercifully, put an end to the monotony at the marquee. Spider-Man: Into the Spider Verse, which is both animated and a superhero flick, is poised to jump out to a huge opening with audiences starved for new releases. And don't forget the Clint Eastwood smuggling drama The Mule, based on the true story of a World War II veteran in his 90s who became an asset for the Sinaloa Cartel. It's Eastwood's first movie where he both stars and directs since Gran Torino in 2008. We can't wait!
