Weekend Box Office Report - 11-27-2017

Pixar’s Coco won Thanksgiving weekend, knocking Justice League out of its top spot with a three-day total of $49 million. Estimates say that it should have some legs through the start of December, or at least until Star Wars: The Last Jedi steamrolls everything in its path. This should make the folks at WME happy, as they rep stars Benjamin Bratt and Gael Garcia Bernal.

It’s still been a rough ride for Justice League which had a 57% drop off from last weekend coming in with $47 million. Not terrible, but not great either and I’m sure Warner Brothers is having some hard conversations on just how they want to proceed with the DC cinematic universe.

In third place is Wonder, coming in with $22.3 million, and only a 17% drop.

Thor: Ragnarok and Daddy’s Home 2 round out the top five, while Roman J. Israel, Esq. expanded and hit ninth place, outperforming expectations a bit. This is good for WME and CAA, as they represent star Denzel Washington and director Dan Gilroy respectively. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Misssouri made 10th place with $4.4 million. UTA reps Frances McDormand, and CAA reps writer/director Martin McDonagh.

Next week: There aren't any big wide releases but several films open in limited release (James Franco’s The Disaster Artist, Guillermo Del Toro’s The Shape of Water, and Woody Allen’s Wonder Wheel) which are expected to be significant players through the holidays. But this analyst here thinks that there won’t be much of a change to the top 10.
