Box Office Round Up - 11-12-18

You're a popular one, Mr. Grinch. 18 years after Jim Carrey charmed audiences with his portrayal of the furry green menace that hates Christmas, Benedict Cumberbatch has taken up the mantle and brought us on another wonderful journey to Whoville. Dr. Seuss' The Grinch is fully animated this time around, with Rashida Jones and the legendary Angela Lansbury helping fill out the cast of Whos that the Grinch has his sights set on. So far so good for the latest Illumination production, as it's roared to nearly $70 million already. It's because he's green, isn't it!

Also debuting is the war-horror combination Overlord, in which American soldiers behind enemy lines on D-Day discover the gruesome results of secret Nazi experiments. The J.J. Abrams produced flick sees Game of ThronesPilou Asbaek star as the more-than-human Nazi captain. Meanwhile, debuting at a disappointing fifth is the crime thriller The Girl in the Spider's Web. The sequel to the 2011 hit The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, both based off the popular book series, has frustrated fans and critics alike, although Claire Foy's leading performance has been praised.

Filling out the rest of the top five are last week's triumphs Bohemian Rhapsody as well as The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. Next week sees a host of promising films hit the small screen, starting with Harry Potter's Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindewald. The Mark Wahlberg - Rose Byrne family comedy Instant Family, which has been getting rave reviews, is premiering as well. We can't wait!
