Weekend Box Office Report - 10-30-2017

It was a sluggish weekend at the box office and an EXTEMELY rough weekend for newcomers. Lionsgate’s Jigsaw made a strong debut (albeit a little under expectations), and was the only wide release to crack the top five, continuing 2017’s trend of horror movies being top earners.

The other wide releases Thank You For Your Service and Suburbicon opened poorly with Suburbicon doing a complete belly flop – surprising considering the pedigree behind it.

So, UTA are the winners at #1 with UTA repping the Spierig Brothers (directors of Jigsaw) and Josh Stolberg (co-writer) of Jigsaw. Paradigm reps Jigsaw’s other writer Pete Goldfinger.

CAA continues to struggle at the box office this month -- repping Thank You For Your Service director and writer Jason Hall, stars Haley Bennet and Miles Teller. The agency also reps most of the Suburbicon major players such as director, co-writer, and producer George Clooney as well as co-writer Grant Heslov, and star Julianne Moore.

BUT hope is not lost for CAA! They’ll be kicking off next month with the mighty hammer of Thor:Ragnarok. As they rep director Taika Waititi and stars Chris Hemsworth and Cate Blanchett. The film opened overseas this past weekend and has already made $107 mm.
