Box Office Round-Up ~ 9/8/25

August’s big horror hit gave way to September’s big horror hit this past weekend. The Conjuring: Last Rites, the fourth — and for the moment final — installment in the massively successful horror franchise (which also spawned the Annabelle and Nun spinoff series) debuted with a series-best $84 million opening weekend. It’s the best debut for a horror movie this year, and the eight best opening weekend overall. So while the Conjuring may claim this is Last Rites, it’s unlikely we’ve seen the last of Ed and Lorraine Warren or their expanded universe of possessed dolls and demonic nuns.

In second place, Hamilton celebrated its tenth anniversary with a theatrical re-release of its 2020 filmed production, which originally debuted on Disney+ and this past weekend grossed a belated $10 million. Weapons moved to third place after five weekends more or less dominating the box office, adding $5.2 million to its $142 million domestic total.

Freakier Friday, also in its fifth weekend, took fourth place with $3.8 million, putting it at $87 million overall. Caught Stealing rounded out the top five with a sophomore total of $3.1 million, putting it at $14.8 million overall.
