Box Office Round-Up ~ 9/28/26

It took four new releases at the box office to knock Spider-Man: Brand New Day out of the top five, and even then Peter Parker still had the number-one movie at the box office (albeit not as the headliner). Partying like its 2019, Avengers: Endgame returned to the big screen in anticipation of Avengers: Doomsday later this year, grossing $26.1 million. It’s the third biggest theatrical re-release ever, behind 1997’s Star Wars Special Edition re-release and the 2011 re-release of The Lion King.

Resident Evil moved to second place in its second weekend with $23 million, clearing $100 million total domestically. The rest of the top five were all new releases, with third place going to survival thriller Heart of the Beast, starring Brad Pitt and directed by David Ayer (Fury, Suicide Squad), which debuted with $20 million. Close behind it in fourth place with $19.1 million was Primetime, the Chris Hansen/To Catch a Predator biopic led by Robert Pattinson. Forgotten Island, the animated fantasy adventure from DreamWorks Animation, opened in fifth place with $13 million.

The first weekend in October features several new releases, highlighted by the much-anticipated Digger, starring Tom Cruise and directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu. Other new titles include killer snake flick Beware Boiúna and psychological thriller Verity, based on the bestseller by Colleen Hoover, starring Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson from director Michael Showalter (The Big Sick, The Eyes of Tammy Faye).
