Box Office Round-Up ~ 10/27/25

If there’s one major takeaway from the domestic box office as we near the end of 2025, it’s that anime is cleaning up. The past weekend saw Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc win the weekend with $18 million. Paired with the latest Demon Slayer’s massive $132 million run last month (as well as the successful of anime-inspired features like KPop Demon Hunters), it’s clear that there’s an audience and a demand for these imports at the box office.

Romantic drama Regretting You (based on a novel by Colleen Hoover of It Ends With Us fame) debuted in second place with a solid $13.6 million, while Black Phone 2 moved to third with $12.9 million for a two-weekend total of $48 million. Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere opened in fourth place with $8.8 million, continuing the trend of underperforming biopics (see: The Smashing Machine and last year’s A Complete Unknown) despite positive reviews, especially for Jeremy Allen White’s lead performance.

Tron: Ares rounded out the top five with $4.9 million in its third weekend, totaling just $63 million in the U.S. and $123 million worldwide. For comparison sake, Tron: Legacy made roughly $130 million in the U.S. alone in its first three weekends back in December 2010.

With Halloween landing on a Friday this year, most new releases are shying away from opening until November hits. Exceptions include thriller Anniversary (starring Diane Lane and Kyle Chandler) and animated horror comedy Stitch Head on Wednesday 10/29, while Yorgos Lanthimos’s Bugonia expands wide on Friday alongside a theatrical re-release of Back to the Future to celebrate its 40th anniversary.
