Box Office Round-Up ~ 6/2/25

As expected, Lilo & Stitch retained the top spot in theaters as May turned into June, grossing $61.8 million in its second weekend to pass $278 million overall domestically and over $600 million worldwide. With summer blockbuster season underway, it may not be able to unseat A Minecraft Movie for the highest grossing film of the year, but it has passed Sinners to firmly take second place (for now).

New release Karate Kid: Legends (a sequel to both the Ralph Macchio-led original series and the 2010 Jackie Chan reboot) hoped to beat out Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning for second place, but unfortunately it fell short with a disappointing $21 million debut. The Final Reckoning, for its part, had a decent second weekend, grossing $27.8 million and passing $120 million overall. $200 million may be a tall order, but it will probably pass Dead Reckoning Part One’s $172 million total.

Final Destination: Bloodlines continued a solid box office run, taking fourth place with $10.9 million to pass $100 million overall in just three weekends, making it the highest-grossing horror movie of the year after Sinners. Speaking of horror, Bring Her Back, the latest from A24 and the directors of Talk to Me, debuted in fifth place with $7 million.

Notable outside the top five was The Phoenician Scheme, the latest from Wes Anderson, which grossed $560,000 on just six screens (an impressive $93K per screen). It expands to wide release this coming weekend, alongside From the World of John Wick: Ballerina, manga adaptation Dan Da Dan: Evil Eye, survival horror Dangerous Animals, and The Ritual, an exorcism horror starring Al Pacino and Dan Stevens.
