Box Office Round-Up ~ 7/28/25

Marvel Studios and Disney doubtless wanted to replicate DC and Warner Bros.’ early July success with Superman this past weekend with the release of the highly anticipated The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and it looks like the numbers are in their favor as the 37th installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe debuted with an impressive $117.6 million.
It’s the best MCU opening weekend since last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine (which took in a massive $211.4 million). It’s also the biggest MCU opening weekend for a non-sequel (if anything in the MCU can be considered a non-sequel at this point) since Captain Marvel way back in the distant past of 2019.
In second place, Superman wrapped up its third weekend with $58.4 million, putting it just a few million short of a $300 million domestic total. It has also cleared $500 million worldwide, giving the DC Universe the much-needed jumpstart Warner Bros. was hoping for. Jurassic World: Rebirth finished up its first month in theaters with $23 million, reaching $301 million domestically.
F1: The Movie moved back up to fourth place in its fifth weekend, grossing $9.8 million for $165 million total, while Smurfs offered some family-friendly counterprogramming in fifth place with $5.4 million. It will likely lose that family audience this coming weekend to The Bad Guys 2. The first weekend of August will also see the Liam Neeson-led reboot of The Naked Gun along with the limited release of Dave Franco and Alison Brie’s body horror Together.
