Box Office Round-Up ~ 8/4/25

The Fantastic Four: First Steps held off any new arrivals at the box office over the first weekend of August, but at the expense of a steeper-than-expected drop in the numbers. The latest chapter of the MCU grossed $38.6 million in its second weekend, putting it at $197 million overall in the U.S., which leaves it on pace for a lower total than its fellow July blockbusters, Jurassic World: Rebirth and Superman.

The Bad Guys 2 debuted in second place with a solid $22.2 million, a comparable number to its predecessor back in April of 2022. In third place, the Liam Neeson-led reboot of The Naked Gun opened with a very good $16.8 million, the best opening weekend for a live-action original comedy since before the pandemic. It’s also the second best opening weekend for the Naked Gun franchise, just a couple million behind The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear, which ended up outgrossing the likes of Backdraft, Beauty and the Beast and Kindergarten Cop back in 1991. (Leslie Nielsen was a big deal, folks.)

Coming off a very successful July, Superman closed out its fourth weekend with $13.7 million for a domestic total of $316 million. Within a week or two, it will likely pass Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as Superman’s highest grossing domestic release. Jurassic World: Rebirth rounded out the top five with fifth-weekend gross of $8.7 million, putting it at $317 million overall and the third highest grossing movie of the year.
