Box Office Round-Up ~ 8/18/25

None of this past weekend’s new releases were enough to unseat Weapons from the top spot at the box office. Writer/director Zach Cregger’s second horror release (after 2022’s Barbarian) has cleared $88 million overall in the U.S., a big success after just two weekends in theaters. Freakier Friday also held onto second place in its sophomore weekend, grossing $14.2 million for a domestic total of $54 million so far.

Unfortunately, the success of last week’s new releases came at the expense of this week’s biggest new title, Nobody 2. The Bob Odenkirk-led action sequel debuted with a somewhat disappointing $9.2 million. The original Nobody benefited from solid word-of-mouth back in March 2021, so there’s still a chance the sequel will find some legs during the generally quiet final weeks of summer.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps finished up four weekends in theaters with $9 million, putting it just short of $247 million total. It’s the highest-grossing MCU movie of the year, but far short of last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine ($636 million domestic) and obviously not on the same level as the MCU’s glory days in the 2010s.

The Bad Guys 2 rounded out the top five with $7.5 million, passing $50 million overall after three weekends. This coming weekend sees a lack of major blockbusters, but a couple new movies from some notable directors: Eden from Ron Howard and Honey Don’t from Ethan Coen.
