Box Office Round-Up ~ 8/11/25

Much like Sinners at the start of the summer, another original horror movie from Warner Bros. won the weekend as summer draws to a close. Weapons, the latest from writer/director Zach Cregger (Barbarian), opened with an excellent $43.5 million. If it has legs even close to Sinners, it could see $200 million domestic before its theatrical run is over.
Fellow new release Freakier Friday (the long-awaited reunion of Freaky Friday’s Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis) also had a solid debut, taking second place with $28.5 million. Both new releases came at the expense, it seems, of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which saw a steep drop to third place with $15.7 million. It’s now grossed $230 million domestically after three weekends, and it’s looking like Superman will be the higher-grossing superhero of the summer. (Another win for Warner Bros.)
The Bad Guys 2 and The Naked Gun rounded out the top five with $10.5 million and $8.3 million in their mutual sophomore weekend, passing $40 million and $30 million overall respectively. This upcoming weekend sees an eclectic array of new releases, including Highest 2 Lowest, the latest collaboration between Spike Lee and Denzel Washington, and Nobody 2, the follow-up to Bob Odenkirk’s surprise action hit.
