Box Office Round-Up ~ 6/9/2025

Assassins from the world of John Wick may be nearly invincible, but even they can’t seem to defeat a little blue alien with a penchant for mischief and surfing. Lilo & Stitch finished atop the box office for a third weekend in a row, grossing $32.5 million to put it at over $335 million domestically. It’s got less than a million to go before it catches up with A Minecraft Movie for the top movie of the year, but Warner Bros. and Disney likely hope their July superheroes (Superman and Fantastic Four: First Steps, respectively) surpass both their spring blockbusters in the long run anyway.

From the [aforementioned] World of John Wick: Ballerina debuted in second place with $25 million, which is more or less in line with the first two John Wick movies, though lower than Chapter 3 - Parabellum and Chapter 4. The franchise in general does very well on home video and VOD, so Ballerina may have positive long-term prospects despite an underwhelming theatrical run.

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning took third place with $14.8 million after three weekends, closing in on $150 million domestically so far. Karate Kid: Legends dropped to fourth place in its second weekend with $8.7 million. Closing out the top five was Final Destination: Bloodlines with $6.4 million. It will finish up its first month in theaters with over $123 million, making it easily the highest grossing installment in the Final Destination franchise, proving that death is going to have to try a little harder with this franchise.

This coming weekend is headlined by DreamWorks’ live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon. Other new releases include western The Unholy Trinity, romantic comedy Materialists (starring Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal and Dakota Johnson), and the wide release of director Mike Flanagan’s latest Stephen King adaptation, The Life of Chuck.
