Box Office Round-Up ~ 7/21/25

Positive critical reception and word-of-mouth kept Superman aloft in its second weekend, as the inaugural film of the new DC Universe grossed $58.4 million for a domestic total of $236 million thus far. It may yield the top of the charts to Marvel and The Fantastic Four: First Steps next weekend, but it’s been a successful relaunch for the Last Son of Krypton and his fellow DC superheroes.
Jurassic World: Rebirth held onto second place in the face of multiple new releases, grossing $23 million for a three-weekend domestic total of $276 million, passing How to Train Your Dragon as the fourth-highest grossing film of 2025.
Two new movies had to settle for third and fourth place, as the legacy sequel/reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer premiered with $12.7 million, while the third attempt at a Smurfs franchise in fifteen years took fourth place with $11 million, the lowest opening weekend for a Smurfs movie yet. In fifth place, F1: The Movie finished up four weekends in theaters with $9.8 million for a domestic total of $153 million so far.
