The Lead Sheet ~ 7/29/25

The Lead Sheet is your guide to this week’s new music - taking a look at newly released albums, who made them, and how listeners are responding.

Tyler, The Creator’s new LP, DON’T TAP THE GLASS released on July 21st, and has been receiving excellent reviews from fans and critics. The ten-track album features Yebba, Pharell, and Madison McFerrin. The album is being praised for its lyrical punch, lighthearted tone, and danceable songs. The album features diverse genres like house, disco, R&B and techno.

Pop matriarch Madonna has a new record out this week, Veronica Electronica, which is a remix of her 1998 album Ray of LightConsidered by many to be her best album, the new remix version is getting generally positive reviews. Veronica Electronica (one of Madonna’s alter-egos) features new mixes, some of which were previously released as singles, and also includes a never-before-released song, “Gone, Gone Gone,” which was produced during the original recording of Ray of Light. Fans and critics agree that the album is a refreshing redux, but doesn’t break any new ground.

Ben Lasky, A.K.A. Quadecareleased an exciting new album this week, titled Vanisher, Horizon Scraper. Quadeca started out as a YouTube rapper, but has since grown to become a music sensation. Vanisher, Horizon Scraper is getting rave reviews; its sound is esoteric and haunting, free flowing and reverent. The artist released the full album on YouTube, with an original feature length film as its companion, essentially creating an hour long music video. The result is stunning, unique and emotionally charged. Fans and critics are calling it Quadeca’s most refined work yet.

Alice Cooper, the hard rock legend that created massive hits like “School’s Out” and “No More Mr. Nice Guy,” dropped his new album on July 25th; The Revenge of Alice Cooper. The album’s aesthetic is that of a 1960’s creature feature, with a touch of Vincent Price for good measure. The Revenge of Alice Cooper has all the elements that make a great rock record- catchy choruses, powerful vocals and face-melting electric guitar riffs. The fourteen-track album has been getting positive reviews, particularly for stand-out songs like “Wild Ones” and “Blood on the Sun.” However, some feel despite the reunion of the original band, they just don’t have the same energy as they did in their hey-day.

Country-rock artist Tyler Childers, released his seventh LP, Snipe Hunter this week. The album is being hailed as his best so far, with some even commenting it has album of the year potential. Produced by Rick RubinSnipe Hunter features a more Appalachian storytelling flavor, with plenty of telecaster twang. The new record also features a studio version of “Nose on the Grindstone,” a highly anticipated fan-favorite. Tyler Childers will tour this fall in the United States, and finish in the UK in November of this year.
