Series Snapshot ~ 9/4/25

Welcome to the Series Snapshot, a weekly deep dive into the shows topping the streaming charts.

The most streamed series on Netflix this week is a revenge thriller miniseries from Spain, Two Graves, in Spanish, Dos TumbasTwo Graves follows a grieving grandmother as she investigates the truth behind the disappearance of her two granddaughters, and the lengths she goes to for revenge. The series is getting positive reception, particularly for Kiti Manver’s lead performance as Isabel, but also for its suspenseful writing and adept direction by Kike MailoTwo Graves consists of three hour long installments, and also stars Alvaro Morte and Hovik Keuchkerian.

Once again, FX original Alien: Earth is the most streamed on Hulu this week, as the show gains viewership and momentum. The sci-fi horror is getting glowing praise from fans and critics, and is also generating quite a bit of Emmy buzz, specifically for its special effects, production design, and stellar performances from leads Timothy Olyphant, Sydney Chandler, and Alex Lawther. Already, rumors of season two have begun, with some hinting filming may already have started in Bangkok, but it has yet to be officially confirmed. New episodes are released weekly, Tuesdays at 8PM ET on FX and Hulu.

The new season of Peacemaker continues its streak this week, with the MAX original series getting great press and reviews from viewers and critics. The action-comedy is often praised for its self-awareness, comedic voice, and emotional poignancy, with nods to John Cena who delivers a charismatic performance as the titular hero. Peacemaker also stars Danielle Brooksand Freddie StromaNew episodes release Thursdays at 9PM ET.

At Amazon, a new prequel to the popular The Terminal List series, The Terminal List: Dark Wolf has unseated the back-to-back winner The Summer I Turned Pretty after a long run at the top of the charts. Dark Wolf is a spy action-thriller starring Taylor KitschTom Hopper and Chris Pratt and follows the three as Navy Seals before joining the CIA. Reviews are positive, but some feel the show paints a black and white picture of Americans as the “good guys” with little room for nuanced takes. The Terminal List: Dark Wolf was directed by Paul CameronLiz Friedlander, and Frederick E.O. Toye, and comes from creators Jack Carr and David DiGilio.

AppleTV’s Invasion takes the number one spot again, but despite its high rank, reviews aren’t great for the series. Overall, viewers are frustrated with the slow pacing, the casting choices, and perhaps aggravatingly, a general lack of aliens.  Critics tend to rate the show a bit higher, praising the series for its performances and special effects. Invasion season three stars  Shamier Anderson, Golshifteh Farahaniand Shioli Kutsuna, and comes from creators David Weil and Simon Kinberg.

For the second week in a row, the most streamed on Disney Plus is crime comedy High Potential, starring Kaitlin OlsonDaniel Sunjata and Judy Reyes. The series’ second season is set to premiere September 16, and audiences are re-watching the series to recap or catch up for the new episodes. The series has garnered praise for its clever writing, quick pacing and standout performance by Olson, and is highly scored by both critics and general audiences. High Potential was created by Drew Goddard and will premiere on both ABC and Hulu, with weekly releases.
