Series Snapshot ~ 8/14/25

Welcome to the Series Snapshot, a weekly deep dive into the shows topping the streaming charts.
The highly anticipated new season of Netflix original Wednesday, released this week, and
has shot up to the most watched spot. The second-most watched is also Wednesday, but season one. Presumably, audiences are either catching up, or getting a refresher before diving into the new content. Season two is getting positive reviews, and takes the show in a darker direction. Jenna Ortega reprises her role as Wednesday Adams, and the series also sees the return of stars Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, and Isaac Ordonez.
At Hulu, a brand new series set in the world of the popular Alien franchise, Alien: Earth has taken the number one spot. The new sci-fi horror series is a prequel to the original 1979 film, set two years prior in the year 2120. Alien: Earth is topical; exploring horrific scenarios involving out-of-control AI, the meaning of consciousness, and unchecked corporate political power, and that’s all before even getting to the Xenomorphs. Alien: Earth stars Sydney Chandler, Timothy Olyphant, and Alex Lawther.
Once again, MAX’s most popular series of the week is The Gilded Age. The MAX original had a slow burn upon release, but has since picked up steam in viewership consistently. As the series progresses, fans seem more and more invested, theorizing and making predictions about what will happen next. The Gilded Age’s season finale aired this week, and has been greenlit for a fourth season, which is already in production. The series stars Carrie Coon, Morgan Spector, Cynthia Nixon, and Christine Baranski, and comes from creator Julian Fellowes.
At Amazon, The Summer I Turned Pretty is once again at the top, ahead of Countdown and Ballard. The teen drama has ignited many discussions, fan theories, and predictions in its new season, with a love triangle dividing fans into either “Team-Jeremiah” or “Team Conrad.” The series is also getting praise for honoring the source material, while also deviating from it in strategic ways to keep fans engaged and stay one step ahead. The Summer I Turned Pretty stars Gavin Casalegno, Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, and Rain Spencer.
AppleTV’s historical action-drama Chief of War continues its reign at the top this week. Apple has been dominating this year in terms of original content. Chief of War continues to garner praise for its dedication to Hawaiian history and culture, as well as stunning visuals, effects, and a standout performance by Jason Momoa, who created the series alongside Thomas Paʻa Sibbett. Some fans find the pacing to be a little slow, but the plot is still developing and has plenty of time to pick up speed. Chief of War was intended to be a limited series, so it is unlikely we’ll see a second season. The series also stars Luciane Buchanan, with new episodes airing every Friday.
Disney’s new animated mini-series, Eyes of Wakanda has proven to have staying power, continuing its second week at the most watched spot on the platform. The MCU series stars Winnie Harlow, Cress Williams and Patricia Belcher. The new show, directed by Ryan Coogler, is getting praise from fans and critics for its breath-taking animation, writing, and voiceover performances. Eyes of Wakanda is a four-part miniseries, so as of right now there are no plans to continue with more episodes.
