Welcome to the Series Snapshot, a weekly deep dive into the shows topping the streaming charts.

Netflix’s original limited series Untamed once again clinches the most-watched title of the week, far ahead of the runner-up, The Sandman, which has dropped off in viewership. Untamed has been getting great buzz, particularly for Eric Bana’s standout performance as agent Kyle Turner. There’s a consensus that despite the series relying on a few genre clichés, it pulls them off dazzlingly keeping the tension high throughout its six-episodes. Untamed also stars Sam Neill and Rosemary DeWitt and comes from creators Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith.

Mega popular reality dating show Love Island UK is number one on Hulu this week and has continued to receive high ratings. The series is only one week out from its finale on August 4th, so it makes sense that so many are streaming it as it races towards its season finale. Love Island is unique in that, while similar shows like Love is Blind, The Ultimatum, and Married at First Sight all shoot a season, edit it, and then release it, Love Island is filmed in real time, then edited and released within about a day. This allows for immediate feedback from viewers and peak engagement. Love Island was created by Richard Cowles.

And Just Like That… has “just like that” taken the number-one spot this week for MAX. It had previously been consistently in third place, behind MAX originals The Gilded Age and Rick and Morty. The series does not seem to be getting very good reviews across the board, but fans and viewers continue to watch. The characters and story have had such a large cultural impact that, even if the series doesn’t compare to the original Sex and the City, it continues to get lots of streams week to week. And Just Like That… stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Sarita Choudhury, and Kristin Davis.

Over at Amazon, teen drama The Summer I Turned Pretty continues its most-watched streak. This is an impressive feat considering the show’s current third season has only released four episodes. Reviews for the new season are generally positive, with Lola Tung receiving recognition for her performance. The series also stars Gavin Casalegno, Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, and Rain Spencer.

AppleTV's original series Foundation is once again at the top for the streaming platform. Foundation is sometimes cheekily referred to as “Game of Thrones in Space” and is now in its third season and getting fantastic reviews. However, critics and fans agree that season two was unequivocally superb and was the show’s peak in terms of plot, writing, and acting, even netting a perfect “100%” on Rotten Tomatoes. Foundation comes from creators David S. Goyer and Josh Friedman and stars Jared Harris, Lee Pace, Lou Llobell, and Leah Harvey. Foundation is adapted from the novels by Isaac Asimov.

Grey’s Anatomy is once again the most-watched series on Disney+, worldwide. Interestingly, for subscribers of Disney+ or Hulu, the series is available to stream on Hulu in North America but only available on Disney+ in many other countries. There may be some strange data skewing in effect; the way streaming rights break down can often be quite complex, and since Disney owns Hulu, it makes sense that certain regions may see different shows split across both platforms. Many countries’ only option to view Grey’s Anatomy, for example, is through the Disney+ platform, causing the series to rank quite high on the list. However, not that many viewers in American regions are tuning in via Hulu, which has different competition (like Love Island). Hulu is generally only available in the United States (and some parts of Japan) and may eventually be phased out and replaced with Disney+ as the licenses for different series expire. Grey’s Anatomy stars Ellen Pompeo, Chandra Wilson, and James Pickens Jr., and was created by Shonda Rhimes.
