Series Snapshot ~ 7/16/2026
Welcome to the Series Snapshot, a weekly deep dive into the shows topping the streaming charts.
Netflix’ I Will Find You is a certified hit, as it clocks in at the top of the platform’s chart in weekly viewership for the fourth consecutive week. In 2018, Netflix struck a massive multi-year deal with author Harlan Coben, planning to adapt fourteen of his novels, of which Fool Me Once, became a global megahit and number eight on Netflix’s ‘All-Time Most-Popular English TV Shows’ list. Netflix has since expanded the original deal, with plans to adapt new books as Coben completes them, including a full multi-season series. I Will Find You is admittedly a guilty-pleasure “turn-your-brain-off” adventure according to critics, and relies on one or two tropes and cliches, but its accessibility and binge-formula have given it high staying power, and it can quickly be picked up by new viewers. Stars Sam Worthington and Britt Lower continue to receive glowing praise, and ground the high-stakes series with vulnerability. I Will Find You was created by Robert Hull.
On Hulu, reality series Love Island UK takes the top spot as The Bear wraps up and viewers look for new content. The messy dating series launched its thirteenth season on June 1st, following a breakneck daily release schedule. This constant stream of new episodes, packed with couple-drama, alliances and betrayals, keeps viewer engagement high, never giving audiences time to lose interest. Hosted by Maya Jama, Love Island has contestants “couple-up” or risk getting “dumped” from the island, but each week, new “bombshell” contestants are introduced to cause shakeups and break-ups. Love Island UK is a massive pop-culture hit, and will air a grand finale live on July 27. After that, Love Island will do a winter spin off, Love Island: All Stars, which will air its fourth season in January of 2027. Love Island UK was created by Richard Cowles, Robert Fromage, and Tony Wood.
High Fantasy series House of the Dragon continues its dominance at HBO, as season three presses on. With the recent release of its fourth episode, it’s crossed the halfway point, and introduced Ormund Hightower (James Norton), as a formidable new threat. Fans and critics have embraced his performance as a return to form; Game of Thrones often debuted chaotic wildcard characters to great effect. Other oft-praised favorites include Kieran Bew as Hugh Hammer, Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen, and Phia Saban, who plays the unraveling Helaena Targaryen with devastating emotional power. New episodes release every Sunday evening with a finale set for August 9, and HBO has greenlit a final, fourth season to air sometime in 2028. House of the Dragon was created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan Condal.
For Amazon Prime Video, new Legally Blonde prequel series, Elle takes a second win, pulling good numbers but continuing to struggle with overall ratings. In the massive wake of Off Campus, Elle has scooped up a near identical target demographic, with mostly female viewers age 18-35. Lexi Minetree has quickly earned the adulation of fans of the original franchise, (Minetree admits to also being a superfan) and has nailed the role of Elle Woods with pitch-perfect delivery, but manages to avoid simply re-doing Reese Witherspoon, inserting originality and charm. However, the series struggles with writing- because audiences know where Elle ends up in the films, stakes feel low. Additionally, for a snappy campy comedy, episodes near the one-hour mark, and struggle with overall pacing, causing many to agree that the idea may have functioned better as a single prequel film, rather than multi-season series.
Elle was created by Laura Kittrell and also stars June Diane Raphael, Chandler Kinney, and Zac Looker
AppleTV’s post-apocalypse drama Silo’s third season continues to impress, drawing high viewership and taking the top spot. Silo takes place in an alt-future where a community of ten-thousand live underground in a massive bunker, or “silo”, and are told the outside is toxic and deadly. An unlikely mechanic, Juliette Nichols (Rebecca Ferguson) slowly begins to piece together a conspiracy, and discovers the existence of other silos in the outer wasteland. Apart from a few tropes, critical reception remains overwhelmingly positive, with particular praise for the production design and visual effects. Apple filmed seasons three and four back to back, eliminating previous lengthy gaps between seasons, with four set for early 2027. New episodes release every Friday, and the season finale is set for September 4. Silo also stars Common, Tim Robbins, Harriet Walter, and Chinaza Uche, and was created by Graham Yost.
Disney’s animated superhero series X-Men 97 does it again, taking another win after last week. The series has garnered extremely high ratings on major publications, and is a spiritual sequel to the original X-Men cartoon of the 1990’s. Great care has been taken by animators at Studio Mir (The Legend of Korra, My Adventures with Superman) to recreate the original 1992 art style while adding modern high-quality effects and techniques. X-Men has always had deep roots in political allegory, using mutants as an analogue for oppressed communities, and X-Men 97 makes poignant commentary on xenophobia and anti-immigration policies with nuance, elevating the series beyond simple action. Classic characters are brought to life by many of the original cast, and critics praise the performances of Ray Chase as Cyclops, Matthew Waterson as Magneto, and Lenore Zann, who plays Rogue. New episodes release every Wednesday, and X-Men 97 has been greenlit for a third season to air in the summer of 2027. X-Men 97 was created by Beau DeMayo, and led by showrunner Matthew Chauncey.
