Notes from the Rep Biz - 10-11-2019

At CAA:

Cinema legend Francis Ford Coppola has signed with Josh Lieberman as part of a plan to get rolling at last on his long-gestating sci-fi film Megalopolis.

Rising star Simu Liu, who is destined to blow up with the eventual release of Marvel's Shang-Chi, is now with a team that includes Bryan Lourd, Franklin Latt and Amanda Lie, as well as agents in CAA's Beijing office.

An actor who has been quietly blowing up with a series of acclaimed supporting roles in film and TV, Rob Morgan (Mudbound, Stranger Things, Just Mercy), has signed with a team that includes Fatmata Kamara and Tracy Brennan.,

Manny Jacinto, a favorite from The Good Place, has signed with David Bugliari and Sam Bringardner.

And last, but certainly not least, ageless musical act Sugar Ray has signed with the agency for worldwide touring.

At WME:

A signing we missed from late in the summer: David Duchovny is now with a team that includes Brian DePersia, Chris Fioto and Marc Korman.

Elsewhere around town:

Pop culture power couple Ciara and Russell Wilson are joining forces with mega-manager Jason Weinberg to develop a boutique talent management outfit as part of Wilson's production company West2East. For Weinberg, the new venture will remain separate from his work with Untitled.

UTA continues to make big moves in the esports space, now signing Call of Duty immortal Seth "Scump" Abner.

Gersh has signed actor Troy Garity, as well as one of the stars of the hit Netflix Irish comedy Derry Girls, Jamie-Lee O'Donnell.

And in legal news of the weird, agent Spencer Baumgarten is no longer with ICM Partners and has filed suit against the agency for wrongful termination and defamation (look up the complaint for the weird part).
