Weekend Report, January 21, 2014

After a record box office haul in 2013, Hollywood has to be liking 2014 quite a bit thus far. After Lone Survivor beat expectations last weekend, Ride Along has now broken the record for a January opening. Lone Survivor didn't exactly disappear, either—it came in a strong second, reaching nearly $75M in two weeks. The Nut Job also had a strong opening, while Jack Ryan is looking a little like your dad's action franchise (or, at least, statistically speaking, dads were more likely to have attended opening weekend). Frozen is still solid, hanging on for fifth place.
